McClain Park Disc Golf Course

McClain Park carries a note of history before the first disc leaves your hand. San Antonio's City Council approved buying and naming the 97-acre park in October 2001, and it was dedicated that November in memory of Bryan McClain — a Madison High School graduate and Texas A&M sophomore, Class of 2002, who was studying entomology and serving in the Corps of Cadets when he was killed in the 1999 Aggie Bonfire collapse. The purchase was funded with City Council District 10 improvement funds and a $100,000 donation from Martin Marietta Materials. The disc golf course was added in 2007.

The city credits the layout to Shawn Low and Wayne Atkinson and lists it at 18 holes, par 56, and 5,533 feet total. It runs through wooded ground near O'Connor Road with moderate elevation and a creek corridor, mixing tree-lined tunnel shots with more open fairways, so a full bag is more useful here than raw distance. Play is free and first come, first served, with parking, water, picnic areas and park trails on site. The park is open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and since the course isn't lit, plan your round with daylight to spare.
