The Ravine Disc Golf Course at Chestnut Ridge Park

Chestnut Ridge Park climbs the escarpment south of Buffalo in the Town of Orchard Park, and at about 1,151 acres it is the largest park Erie County operates. The county's own park page confirms the disc golf here: "Chestnut Ridge Park contains The Ravine 18-hole Disc Golf Course." The land was acquired in 1926, among the first parks the county established, and Works Progress Administration crews shaped much of what is still standing — including the Casino at the top of the sledding hill, built in 1938.

The ground is wooded and steep. Ravines and creek cuts run through the property, and the course sits above 1,000 feet, high enough that the sledding hill looks out over Buffalo and Lake Erie on a clear day. Erie County maintains the course with Niagara Regional Disc Golf, the same partnership behind its Emery, Ellicott Creek, and Como Lake courses. The park is open all year, 7 am to dusk in winter and to 9 pm in summer, and also holds tennis courts, hiking trails, picnic shelters, toboggan chutes, and the Eternal Flame Falls trail in the former Shale Creek Preserve. Spring and fall are the reliable windows before lake-effect snow arrives.
