Mary Moore Searight Disc Golf Course

Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park covers 344 acres in far south Austin off Slaughter Lane, and its 18-hole disc golf course is one of the oldest the city runs — Austin Parks and Recreation lists it as opening in 1991. Wikipedia's catalogue of John Houck's original designs lists both Searight Park and a Searight alternate layout. The course is free and open to the public.

It plays to a par of 56 over 5,157 feet on rolling, moderately hilly ground with about 85 feet of relief. A little over half the surrounding land is evergreen tree cover, so the fairways alternate between tight tree-lined corridors and more open ground, and shot shaping matters more than distance — it sits at an intermediate level rather than a beginner one. The park itself adds about six miles of hike, bike and equestrian trails, plus a playground, picnic areas and creek access, and it is open daily from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm with free parking.
