Park Circle Disc Golf Course

Park Circle is the traffic circle at the center of North Charleston's oldest planned neighborhood, and the city's 18-hole disc golf course is laid out across the eight wedge-shaped islands ringing its outside edge. The City of North Charleston Parks & Recreation Department runs it as open play, daylight to dark, Monday through Sunday, with no sign-up. It's free, and the closest thing the Charleston area has to a true walk-up urban course — 1156 E Montague Avenue puts you on it.

The ground is flat, roughly 30 feet above sea level, and the fairways are short, so the difficulty comes from the setting rather than distance: mature street trees stand in most lines, and the residential streets that radiate off the circle separate one island from the next. North Charleston's tourism office describes it as a course where you'll see all skill levels, which makes it a reasonable first course in the Lowcountry. Tuesday is league night — doubles players meet at the #6 tee at 4:30 p.m. Late fall through early spring is the most comfortable window; summer here is hot and humid.
