Fort Washington State Park Disc Golf Course

Fort Washington State Park's 18-hole course is wooded, per DCNR, and starts in Lot #2 of the Militia Hill Day Use Area at a kiosk with the course map posted on it. That makes it an easy course to walk up to cold — you can read the layout before you throw. The park runs to 493 acres across Springfield and Whitemarsh townships in eastern Montgomery County, about 17 miles north of Philadelphia, with Wissahickon Creek cutting through it, and the disc golf holes sit on the Militia Hill side alongside picnic grounds and trails.

The ground has a history: Washington's 11,000 troops camped here from November 11 to December 11, 1777 after the defeat at Germantown, before marching on to Valley Forge, and Militia Hill is named for the Pennsylvania militia generals who held it. Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Commission established the park in the early 1920s and the state took it over in 1953. There is no fee. The park is open sunrise to sunset every day of the year; the day use areas open at 8 a.m. If you play here in early fall, the Hawk Watch runs from the Militia Hill observation deck from September 1 through October 31.
