Scored for mixed terrain
The Hillside course at Live Oak City Park — officially renamed the Joe W. Painter Hillside course, and still widely known as Live Oak Hillside — is a championship-length John Houck design in Live Oak, a San Antonio suburb in Bexar County. Houck first brought disc golf to Live Oak City Park in 1991; the current 19-hole Hillside layout opened in 2018, funded through the city's economic development corporation.
As its name suggests, it plays across a wooded limestone hillside with real elevation change — a par-67 test over roughly 6,675 feet that rewards course management, shot shaping and reading the slope over pure distance. Live-oak corridors and ridgelines give it both shade and character. It carries a ~4.4-star UDisc rating from around 3,300 rounds and hosts the long-running Live Oak Summer Open, now past its twentieth year. Free and public, it's one of the better challenges in the greater San Antonio area for intermediate and advanced players.
