Texas Army Trail Disc Golf Course

Texas Army Trail, at Bud Hadfield Park in Cypress northwest of Houston, is one of the most punishing wooded courses in the region. Built by the nonprofit Telge Park Disc Golf, Inc. with a layout by Charles 'Chuck' Haney Jr. and opened in 2011, it's a course players talk about with a mix of respect and dread for its sheer wood density.

It plays 18 holes to a par of 61 over roughly 6,850 feet, and while the terrain is flat, the fairways are anything but easy — tight, tree-lined corridors with narrow windows to the basket that swallow errant throws in the surrounding rough. Accuracy and controlled, low lines matter far more than distance here. It carries a ~4.5-star UDisc rating from around 3,400 rounds and hosts PDGA-sanctioned events like the Texas Army Trail Classic. Free and public — but bring discs you can afford to lose, and save it for the cooler, drier months.
