Texas Army Trail Disc Golf Course

Texas Army Trail is an 18-hole disc golf course in Bud Hadfield Park, a 54.5-acre Harris County Precinct 3 park on Telge Road in Cypress, northwest of Houston. It is a volunteer project from end to end: Telge Park Disc Golf, Inc., a nonprofit established in 2009 by Charles Haney, provided the labor, expertise and materials to lay out and build the course, with help from Andi and Don Young of Disc Golf Consultants. The course has been permanently open since January 3, 2012, and the Texas Army Trail Volunteers still maintain it and its equipment. The name points at the site's history — the interim government of the Republic of Texas and roughly 1,100 men under Sam Houston stopped in this area in 1836 on the way to San Jacinto.

The layout runs 18 holes to a par of 61 over roughly 6,850 feet, with a practice area alongside it. The ground is flat, but the course is densely wooded — only about 10% of it is open — so the round is about fitting discs through tree-lined corridors rather than opening up and throwing far. It is free to play, with a parking lot, a picnic area and a nature trail in the park, which is open daily from 7 a.m. until dusk. Houston-area summers are hot and humid here; the cooler stretch from October into March is the easier window.
