Veterans Park Disc Golf Course

Veterans Park is one of the courses the Dallas–Fort Worth disc golf scene grew up around. It started informally in the late 1980s — players hauling spare baskets into the park — before the Arlington Disc Golf Association got a permanent course installed in May 1990. A year later it gave rise to the Veterans Park Open, now one of the longest-running annual tournaments in Texas and a PDGA A-tier event that had reached its 34th edition by 2024.

The layout is a firm rebuttal to the flat-Texas stereotype. Routed through a rugged, rolling 103-acre park, it mixes hilly holes choked with mesquite brush and cactus with more open, bomber-friendly fairways, and a creek that runs through the property comes into play more than once. Expect blind tee shots, real elevation swings and narrow wooded corridors — it plays to a par of 56 over roughly 6,489 feet from the main tees, though tournament configurations stretch considerably longer. With more than 5,400 UDisc reviews averaging 4.4 stars and a top-ten Texas ranking on DiscGolfScene, it punches well above its municipal-park origins.

It's free and open to the public daily from 5am to midnight, with parking, restrooms, a pavilion, playground and trails through the surrounding nature area. One important note: there's no drinking water on the course, so bring your own — especially in summer, when the exposed valley holes offer little shade. First-timers should keep the UDisc map handy, as the signage is sparse.
