Veterans Park Disc Golf Course

Veterans Park is one of the courses the Dallas–Fort Worth disc golf scene grew up around. Through the late 1980s, players from the Irving Disc Sports Association hauled portable baskets into the park to play it informally. Keith Enochs then spent close to two years working with the Arlington City Council and the Parks Department, and a permanent course was installed in May 1990. The Arlington Disc Golf Association formed the following year and held the first Veterans Park Open in November 1991 — an event whose purses drew national fields, with Ken Climo and Scott Stokely among its past winners.

The course occupies a 103-acre city park with hilly, brushy terrain and a pond, and it plays to a par of 56 over roughly 6,489 feet. It's free, and the park is open 5am to 10pm. Parking, restrooms, picnic shelters, playgrounds and 1.4 miles of bike/hike trail are on site. The Arlington Disc Golf Association posts a course map and printable scorecards on its website, which are worth having before a first round.
