Disc golf in Philadelphia

Philadelphia's disc golf history starts in East Fairmount Park. Sedgley Woods was laid out in 1977 by the Philadelphia Frisbee Club to an initial design by Ed Headrick, and the DGA Pole Hole baskets installed there in summer 1978 made it what the club calls the first permanent Pole Hole course on the East Coast. It has grown to 27 wooded holes with three tee placements each, is free to play sunup to sundown year-round, and is run by the Friends of Sedgley Woods, a nonprofit formed in 1990. Ten miles north, Fort Washington State Park adds a second wooded 18 in the Militia Hill Day Use Area.
