Oregon Disc Golf Course at Alton Baker Park

Alton Baker Park is Eugene's largest developed park — the City of Eugene puts its holdings at 373 acres, wrapped around the north bank of the Willamette River directly across from the University of Oregon — and it's named for Alton F. Baker, a co-founder of the Eugene Register-Guard who was instrumental in acquiring the land. The disc golf course occupies a slice of it, 18 holes with both a short and a long basket position on every hole, threading between wooded corridors, open fields and a historic filbert grove on ground with only subtle elevation. Basket positions rotate weekly, so the course changes shape over the season.

Unlike most city-park courses this one is pay-to-play: it's run as a concession by Myron Clements at $5 a day ($3 for seniors and juniors), with quarterly and yearly memberships available, and there's a pro shop on site stocking new and used discs. Two dual-position baskets per hole make it a genuinely forgiving first course while still giving stronger players long pins to work with, and the operation hosts leagues and tournaments through the year. One quirk worth planning around: the course drops to 12 holes when Autzen Stadium — right next door — has an event.
