Hornets Nest Park Disc Golf Course

Hornets Nest Park is a Mecklenburg County park in northwest Charlotte, and its disc golf course shares the grounds with a playground, basketball and tennis courts, softball diamonds, a BMX track, covered shelters and a small fishing lake. All of it is free and open to the public, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The course was built in 1996 to a design by Mark Huether and Stan McDaniel and has since been rebuilt with a new layout — widened fairways, updated signage, concrete tee pads and DISCatcher Pro baskets. The Charlotte Disc Golf Club maintains it.

It plays as two distinct halves. The front nine is park golf: open throws across mowed, shared parkland with raised baskets, including an island green on hole 2 where water is in play and the true island position is reserved for approved tournaments. The back half is a standard Carolina Piedmont woods course, longer than the front but quiet and tucked away from the rest of the park. That mix has made it a regular stop for top-level competition — Hornets Nest hosted the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and the tour returned for the inaugural Queen City Classic in March 2026.
