Dodds Park Disc Golf Course

Dodds is the Champaign Park District's 18-hole disc golf course, laid out across the open turf of Dodds Park on the northwest side of Champaign alongside the district's ball diamonds, soccer fields and aquatic center. The park district's own score card puts the A pins at 4,989 feet to a par 55 — seventeen par 3s and one par 4 — and the B pins at 6,072 feet to a par 56. The district moves the pins between those positions through the season, so the course you played last month may not be the one you get today. There is a practice basket at the start, concrete tees, and a downloadable map and score card on the park district's site.

The ground is flat central-Illinois park land with scattered tree lines rather than dense woods, which makes the A layout an approachable first 18 and leaves the B pins to supply the length. Local reporting dates the course to 2014, and it remains the only 18-hole course in the immediate Champaign-Urbana area — the nearby options in Urbana, Mahomet and Rantoul are all nine holes or fewer. It's free, and open dawn to dusk.
