Sandy Creek Park Disc Golf Course

Sandy Creek Park is a 782-acre Athens-Clarke County park built around 260-acre Lake Chapman on the city's north side. Area volunteers built the disc golf course on parkland already threaded with more than 20 miles of foot trails, and it opened in March 2006 with then-Mayor Heidi Davison on hand. Local reporting credits Athenians Doug Porter and Rob McMaken as co-designers, and the course has continued to draw volunteer maintenance and restoration work since.

The course runs 27 holes over what the county describes as varied, partly wooded terrain, with alternate Red and White layouts that let staff rotate which pins and tees are in play. Par and yardage aren't published by the county. It's a paid facility: general park admission ($2 for ages 4–64, free under 4 and 65+) plus a $1 disc golf fee, with discounted twelve-round punch passes available at the gatehouse. The park is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Mondays, with parking, restrooms and picnic areas on site.
