About this course

Designer
Dave Muntean (2017 redesign)

Tom Brown Park is a roughly 300-acre City of Tallahassee park on the east side of town, dedicated in 1977 and named for Thomas Irvin Brown Jr., a Leon County commissioner for fourteen years. The disc golf course is the largest thing in it: the city's own map lays out 18 numbered holes plus six lettered holes, A through F, for 24 in total, each with a red amateur tee and a blue pro tee. Dave Muntean redesigned the whole course in 2017. Nine holes play through the woods and the rest run across open ground with mature live oaks and pines standing in the fairways, and out-of-bounds areas are worked into several of them. The Tallahassee Disc Golf Association sets four layouts here — short pads play to par 73 on all of them, while the long pads run 76, 78 or 81.

It is free to play and there are no tee times. The course wraps around Lake Leon and threads between the softball complex, the tennis courts and the dog park, so weekends are busy with people who aren't there for disc golf. In April 2022 the park hosted The Open at Tallahassee, a Disc Golf Pro Tour Silver Series event that drew more than 140 registered players from over 30 states. Park hours are sunrise to sunset. This is the Panhandle, not the peninsula — the ground has some roll to it, summers are hot and storm-prone, and October through April is the stretch worth planning around.
