Oak Grove Disc Golf Course

Oak Grove is where the sport began. In 1975 'Steady' Ed Headrick — the Wham-O engineer who patented the modern Frisbee and the Disc Pole Hole basket — installed the world's first permanent disc golf course here in Hahamongna Watershed Park, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains below JPL. Half a century later it remains a working course and a pilgrimage site, playing under a canopy of ancient coast live oaks that give it its name.

It's a historic, technical track rather than a modern distance course. Tight tree-lined lines and modest elevation reward accuracy, and the layout has grown and been reconfigured over the decades — today it plays around two dozen holes depending on the current pin and tee setup, so par varies with the configuration. It holds a ~4.5-star UDisc rating across thousands of rounds and hosts the long-running Wintertime Open. Free and public, with parking, restrooms and trails; a weekday morning is the calm way to throw where it all started.
