Oak Grove Disc Golf Course

Oak Grove is where the sport got its first permanent home. Ed Headrick — the Wham-O engineer behind the chain-catching Disc Pole Hole basket — approached the Los Angeles County parks department in 1974 about building a permanent disc golf course, and worked with the county's park planning staff to lay one out here. It opened in 1975 in what is now Hahamongna Watershed Park, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, and is widely recognized as the world's first. It is still free, still public, and maintained jointly by the local disc golf club and the city.

The City of Pasadena lists it as a 24-hole course inside the 1,300-acre park. The layout has been reworked repeatedly across five decades, so par varies with the current tee and pin setup and older maps go stale. It plays through mature oaks on natural terrain with modest elevation change, which rewards controllable mid-range shots over raw distance. The park is open dawn to dusk with a parking lot, restrooms, and an extensive trail network; a full round typically runs an hour and a half to two and a half hours.
